MUSE: Bianca Jagger

It's no secret that I'm in love with 70's vibes. Looks from this period check off every box on my sartorial #goals list, which is well-documented in my MUSE series from my old blog. It's been a while since I've shared an inspiring beauty on here so I figured it was about time. I'm all about gender-bending apparel and strong facial features and Bianca Jagger totally fits that ticket.

70's style speaks to me because it flawlessly fell between the free-spirited, whimsical and ethnically-inspired getup of the 60's and the bold, structured silhouettes of the 80's. Glitter was just as on-trend as gauze, straight hair was just as trendy as curly, and men's and women's fashion no longer existed as mutual exclusives. Fashion was no longer a binary entity: styles ranged from hyper-feminine to androgynous, catching any and every look in-betewen. Disco culture gave way to bright colors and sky-high platform shoes, but the best leftovers from the hippie era such as bell bottoms and mini skirts stuck around. It was the best sort of free-for-all, even inspiring Vogue to declare, "there are no rules in the fashion game now." 

Bianca Jagger embodied this spirit of rebellion in a way that is effortlessly chic. Wouldn't we all love to solidify ourselves as icons by wearing some of Saint Laurent's most coveted pieces? How about earning a spot as queen of the storied Studio 54? How about doing it all while being a champion for human rights? Nicaraguan socialite Bianca Jagger did it, and, honestly, we're not worthy. 

Get Her Style

Strong Brows, dark contour, and a bold lip will do the trick.

To me, Bianca's legendary style serves up fresh inspiration perfect for spring and early summer. She never shied away from whites and creams, and, somehow, made them incredibly exciting. She breathed new life into old classics. One of my favorite looks of all time is Bianca's all-white suit with the black bow tie. It's stunningly simple, and proves that for something to be memorable, that does not mean that it has to be overdone. 

A White Dress Can Be Anything But Exciting

But sheer fabric, floral embroidery, and a plunging neckline make this dress anything but ordinary.

So, how do you get Bianca's look? Essentially, there are two looks to master here. Daytime boxy suits, and nighttime va va voom dresses and jumpsuits. Chokers work for day or night, and when it's time to go out, metallic accents such as heels or a melange or bangles will pull the look together.

Let's face it: we (I don't know you so I'm mostly talking about myself here) may never be cool enough to have our photo taken on a white horse in Studio 54 but we can still dress for the occasion. And, thanks to a recent Vanity Fair article, we can each be just a little more Bianca Jagger in our everyday lives. (Not sure if I have the time for a bath every morning though, and Diptyque is definitely out of my budget.)
